Game Rant Blogger: The More You Know!

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of post lately, you probably think I’ve been busy at Comic Con, hanging out with the cast of Tron, or “chillin” with the director of Game Rant Comics: The Movie, James Cameron right? Wrong…..no Comic Con for me, and Mr. Cameron’s restraining order has finally been approved, in reality I just been busy on other projects, and I’ve recently realized I really need to get my ass in gear, and start producing comics at the rate I used to, and also .

First of all I happy to announce that I will be starting a Video Blog that you’ll be able to watch on the Home Page and on the official YouTube Channel. The Game Rant Cast will not be used as a game reviews or news. I’ll just be discussing my thoughts on my past and current comics, giving out my views and opinions on news going on in the video game world.

Anyways that all I have for now keep an eye out for the Video Blog, I’ll soon be in the process of moving so after next week’s comic it maybe a little delay on the following one. And to find out what’s all going on in my life don’t forget to follow my on Twitter and Add me on Facebook, CHEERS!

Contest: Fairytale Fights!

Okay, okay, so once again, I haven’t had a comic posted in a why, and I got a pretty good reason (maybe)! I had a fun little idea to doing the next comic as a pretty BIG one! This is my compilation of all the Video Game characters in once page sort of like a “Where’s Waldo” kinda page, the problem is that I didn’t realize it that it takes a lot of work to pull that off, and that what has taken me soooooo long to complete the next issue, and I think the wait was worth it!

Also thanks to PlayLogic I have some copies of Fairytale Fights for the Xbox 360 and PS3 to give out to people who comment on the newest comic. Everyone who comments will be put into a raffle and the winners will win one of the copies, so make sure you put on your comment if you own a Xbox 360 or a PS3 and if you own both let make that as well so I know!

Win a T Shirt too! The best comment I read will win a T Shirt from PlayLogic featuring one of their characters. The shirt is only a Large so please keep that in mind.

Now I’ll be also giving away a couple copies through my Twitter account so click here to follow me.

And don’t forget to join our Facebook page!

UPDATE!

Alright here are the some of the winners of the Fairytale Fights contest! Sorry for taking so long on posting this, but I was waiting on pictures from some of the other winners, that I didn’t receive so, here!

I want to thank everyone who left a comment, it really means a lot to me to know everyone’s feedback, and look forward to more contest starting soon!

Game Rant Blogger: Yeeeee-Haw! With a little w00t!

Red Dead Redemption
So I’m all geared up for Red Dead Redemption! I’m been playing it since Tuesday, and I’m getting addicted to both single and multiplayer.

The single player is fantastic, the characters in the game are unique, hilarious, and darn right rootin tootin! Not to mention the perfect voice acting and character design. The scary in the game is beautiful and amazing. Now I’m finding myself enjoying Red Dead a lot more than it’s brother-in-law: Grand Theft Auto, sure there’s not as much commotion going on, but the side missions, minigames, and overall feel of the game has surpassed the GTA series, now this maybe because it’s been so long since I played GTA IV, and Saints Row is well….Saints Row, but Red Dead decided to give players the ability to truly decide on how they want to play in the world of the American frontier. You get to play as John Marston an ex-outlaw who must kill or capture his former gang member Bill Williamson or his family will pay the ultimate price (that mean death).

Now the multiplayer makes the already great game even better! Like GTA IV’s free mode, Red Dead has its own free roaming mode, where all players in the server can form and join player parties, named “posses”, of up to eight players where they can taking part in activities like: attacking AI generated gang hideouts or other player posses, go hunting, and create in-game private matches. Every multiplayer game, and I mean every game begins with a Mexican Standoff. Survivors of the standoff will be able to get the advantage to move to any part of the battlefield before the enemies respawn. The problem is some game depending on the map this may cause problems forcing the losing team of the stand off to spawn in the middle of a field where now all the players who won the standoff can now snipe and spawn kill the entire game. Other than that the multiplayer is fun with multiple game types and giving the payers the ability to level up and complete almost endless challenges giving rewards such as new character models, golden weapon skins, and new mount breeds (Like a bad ass Buffalo!).

To simply put it just fun as hell to hop on your Stead (or Donkey) and take off across land that’s so full of adventure alone or with a couple buddies. I truly think Rockstar has taken the Western Game genre to new heights and has created one of the deepest, entertaining, and one of the most beautiful games I’ve seen since Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

But please note you can and will expect the occasional bug or visual hiccup, check out my video on the first night I started playing Red Dead Redemption.

Game Rant Blogger: Really?

So if you haven’t noticed one of things I praise in Video Games is the story, and the ability to take the player and emirs them into the universe that the story in presented in. Another thing you may have noticed over the past shows is that futuristic story lines and Space Operas is where my bread and butter is! And that’s when Crytek announced Crysis 2, I was ecstatic! Now the story was decent for Crysis, the old: Alien invade earth, and one human in a suit is the only one to save the day. Sound kinda familiar right?

So this morning when I went news hunting for show notes I found a neat little article on Kotaku about how Richard Morgan the lead writer for Crysis 2 had some things to say about the upcoming sequel, now I know a lot of developers knock other games by stating what their game will do that no other game has offered, so I wasn’t surprised when he knock one of the most popular FPS out there today: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which he described as nonsensical, implausible, and unresolved. You mean like story that takes place in the future where an ancient alien spacecraft has been discovered beneath the ground on an island near the coast of the East Philippines, and then creates a giant frozen sphere?

But then Morgan takes it one step further bashing Bungie’s beloved series: Halo stating: “The reason that its fiction doesn’t work has nothing to do with the fact that you don’t get to see Master Chief’s face, it’s because of lines like ‘Okay … I’m gonna get up there and kill those guys’, … I don’t like Halo at all … it’s full of these bullshit archetypal characters … the series has no real emotional effect.”

Really? Your first game consisted of a Nomad a character who’s face is unseen throughout the entire game, and he pursues mission goals with single-minded fervor. The player assumes this role throughout the game, and other than the end of the last cutscene, the entire game is viewed from Nomad’s perspective. Where Halo had multiple characters, and Two different character you played. The Chief, and the Arbiter.

The reason this pisses me of is because Richard Morgan doesn’t understand that video game plots are rarely judged with the same standards as novels and films because most game plots are made up as they go along by the development team and their managers, these people are better skilled at making awesome games than works of literature. And few titles that can afford a respected writer Eric Nylund, or Drew Karpyshyn certainly up the ante, but only because they can afford it. So if you looking for more of a story from Halo or any other game pick up one of their DVD’s, books or graphic novels, where a writer can get in depth on a character and environment without having to destroy the game play.

Game Rant Blogger: My Consoles Wants To Raid!

Two years ago there was an artilce in Game Informer about Cryptic Studio’s MMO called Champions Online. Now I know there’s a lot of MMO out there, but this had two features taht really caught my eye. The first was a MMO in the world of Super Hereos, now I wasn’t a fan of City of Hereos/Villiuans, but when I saw Cryptic Studios (the creators of City of Hereos/Villains) talk about the features they were bringing to this MMO, I was hooked, but alass I’m not too keen on playing anohter MMO on my PC, and that’s where my second part comes in. The Xbox 360, in the article Cryptic Studios confirmed that this MMO would be released on the Xbox 360, and after that news I was hooks. So I watched patiently when the MMO was released on the PC, and waited even more patiently after there was no word on a release date for the Xbox 360, and then I started becoming a little worried by all the problems that were surfacing the MMO start changing billing policies and servers, but I kept hope!

But now Cryptic Studios is confirming that Champions Online, has been officially canceled for the Xbox 360. The studio announced that they would be using their full resources to bringing Champions Online to the PC platform and making it the best title that it could be. And this brings me to my Game Rant: “My Consoles Wants To Raid!” To this day the only MMO title to ever arrive for the Xbox 360 has been Final Fantasy XI, and I’m sorry Amy or any fans of Square Enix’s MMO love child, but this game sucked. There are so many people who play on live, so why not bring a MMO to the players, other than a hgorrible waste of space like Final Fantasy XI. NOw I know that there have been plenty of MMO titles announced as coming, but none ever seem to actually arrive, and this worries me. I want to experience an MMO with my friends over Xbox Live. It’s one thing to play a 10 minute game type for 2 1/2 hours with my friends on Call of Duty, but to people to do a 3 hour raid with friends, now that would be something I’d like to do.

Game Rant Blogger: Long Over Due Update

So….no Easter comic… To be honest I’ve been so busy I completely forgot about thinking up a comic for Easter. But no fear I got a lot of comics and ideas for potential comics on my desk. My big think right now is getting a lot of cool projects ready to go, I’ll be able to announce them soon, and I can’t wait! Also please be patient with me there’s gonna be a lot of changes to Game Rant Comics over the next couple month, uh more thing I really can’t talk about right now, but I’m really liking all the changes that’ll be coming soon. Also look forward to my 50th comics coming soon! I hope to do something really big, but I don’t know what, and what I do know I can’t really talk about now, so I guess this is just a teaser update.

Game Rant Blogger: Fable 2.5

Let’s admit it, there were a lot of features shown to us for Fable II, but some of those feature weren’t included when the game was released last November. But now with some details officially released from LoinsHead at x10 conference, there could possible be some hope that FableIII3 will deliver what they’re preaching.

Now even though co-op was one of the features included in Fable II But the problem was that even though we could even invite a friend into your world, your friend could only play as a preset character, not their own created character and without able to collect experience, weapons, or loot any hope for having an enjoyable and “rewarding” co-op adventure was lost. The only way to really experience the game together was seeing your friends’ orbs floating, it was a great idea, but created the problem of having 35 Navi like characters running around the marketplaces yelling: “Hey!” or “Listen!”

So when Peter Molyneux explained the future of co-op in Fable III the 4Guys 1UP podcast, all of our problems and worries about the co-op in Fable III subsided. Molyneux stated: “I heard you all about co-op. You want to have your own hero come into the world. Okay, fine, you can have that definitely.” Molyneux also gave more details, when he admitted that the player’s dog and weapons would also be available in co-op. “When you come into my world, you come in as your hero, with your dog, with all your unique weapons, self-crafted weapons. I heard you — you don’t wanna be tied to my camera, you wanna go off and do your own thing in my world. Fine, fair enough.”

With that said, Molyneux added by warning player about “consequences.” Molyneux said: “It means careful who you invite in, ’cause they can screw the whole thing up, man! Yes you can use touch with your co-op partner. Yes you can walk down the street hand-in-hand. Yes you can drag your co-op partner to your dungeon and see what happens. Absolutely.”
I myself am still skeptical on the progress of Fable III, I feel like there were too many things getting promised to us for Fable II, from an advanced combat system, to an in depth way to interact with the people of Albeon. Instead we got a hack-n-slash combo fighting system, and a bunch of villagers that jeer or cheer.

Don’t get me wrong Fable II was a great game, but I feel that a lot of the features we were promised were not able to be completed in the time line they had for the release of Fable II, and that’s why when they originally announce at last years E3 that Fable III would be out this Holiday season, I wasn’t surprised. I’m hoping a lot of those abandoned features from Fable II have been completed and added to Fable III. Keep you eyes peeled for any more updates on Lion Head’s Love child.

Game Rant Blogger: Pandora, Pandora Send Sanity Right Over

Whenever I’m working on the comic, or writing news, or just surfing the net, I like to listen to Podcast, and Music. It sooth’s me, centers me if you will. And of course when I’m, home alone, I like to turn it up! But now thanks to Pandora, that has changed. Don’t get me wrong programs like Pandora, Last.FM, and other sites are a great idea. The premiss: Type in any Artist, Song, or Genre and they’ll play simpler music, sound simple right? Accept for Pandora, you see Pandora takes to a new level, if you like or hate the song you can choose the “Thumbs Up” or “Thumbs Down” button, and Pandora will either never play that song again, or will play similar music to what you like. The problem is sometimes the wires cross, and you may no get what you wanted. Here’s what I’m talking about for example a song comes on it it a Hip Hop song, that you like comes on, you you hit the “Thumbs Up” button, another song this time is a heavy beat fast paced song, another “Thumbs Up” then another song with some Chinese wind chimes in the back, and you think: “Ya know, this isn’t a bad song either.” Next thing you know someone walks into the room, and the next some pops up. Some Techno Japanese Boy Band is singing their heart out to you, and the person who walked in the room has the suspicions that the rumors are true….Jonny Tango is gay. See the problem is Pandora knows what they’re doing, it’s like a musical game of Mouse trap. The players have been made and of course the traps has been set. That one song sit dormant until you “The Player” chooses the right and wrong “Thumbs Up” and “Thumbs Down” and then like a Panther hunting their prey, Pandora strikes and puts you in one the most awkward positions ever as you try to find the Pandora window, to shut it down, the person witnessing what your doing, know has a preconceived notion to what you listen to, and the damage is done…
